This week the Netherlands lower house of parliament passed a bill
that would regulate internet betting, which could be implemented as soon
as next year.
The bill's passage saw amendments placed on the bill, with land
casinos and lottery companies being excluded from being able to access
their player databases to extend offers to online casinos. Land casinos
will have to contribute to a problem gambling fund, while player
identification barrier will also be implemented. The bill is expected to
pass through the Senate and will likely be passed into law later this
year.
Commenting on the deal gaming consultant Jaspar Hoekert said, "We are
absolutely delighted to see the Dutch Remote Gaming Bill finally pass
through parliament. While there are some aspects of the legislation
which are not ideal, this is still a very workable framework and I am
confident that the Netherlands will quickly emerge as one of Europe's
most important gaming jurisdictions."
"For any operators or providers looking to make the most of this new
opportunity, it is important to act quickly and seek local expertise."
